Please see below for details on our Commercial Helicopter Pilot Training;
Once you have gained the PPL (H) and achieved a total of 155 hours flying experience on helicopters, you can commence the CPL (H) modular course.
This course consists of 35 hours of flight training (which includes a night rating), with a total of 185 hours required before you can obtain the CPL (H) licence.
CPL (H) candidates will be required to pass written exams in the following subjects:
Aviation Law Aircraft General Knowledge Flight Performance and Planning Human Performance and Limitations Meteorology Navigation Operational Procedures Principles of Flight VFR Communications
These written exams are to be taken at an external Ground school.
Once you have gained both the flying experience required and the necessary written examination passes, you may then progress to the final Flight Test, consisting of three parts:
General Handling Navigation Instrument Flight
Once you have successfully completed the Licence Skills Test, you will be granted your Commercial Pilots Licence (Helicopter). One additional theory exam must be taken which is called the Tech Type and is taken in house at Executive Helicopters.
Students are also required to hold a valid class 1 medical certificate for the CPL (H) which can be obtained by attending the Mater Private Hospital in Dublin for a full day’s medical assessment. Note: A CPL (H) licence cannot be obtained without passing the Class 1 medical first.
For further details, we would recommend a thorough discussion with our Chief Flying Instructor before embarking on a CPL (H) training programme. Please feel free to telephone our office to discuss the course, costs and a career in commercial helicopter aviation.
